They are not the ones I would have thought I would let slide before I became a mom.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04970758459195770397noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6873182308469051103.post-76400079238023669912014-02-24T11:21:31.759-05:002014-02-24T11:21:31.759-05:00I always think the Okay at the end of the request ...I always think the Okay at the end of the request is a way of confirming the person understands. Because my daughter doesn't give me a direct answer, I usually put the Okay at the end so she can confirm she understood me. She will usually reply "Yes", or "No", so it's easier for me to reinforce the request if it's mandatory or to negotiate when necessary. Given that English is not my first language, it's easy and fast. Sometimes I do use the "you understand" when I'm usually talking about something very serious and about to get mad :)... But now your post got me thinking, I will pay more attention not to use it when there's no negotiation to my request.JPKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12907171830028946733noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6873182308469051103.post-54458423048671268452014-02-23T17:43:53.346-05:002014-02-23T17:43:53.346-05:00Good reminder! What always confused me when I was little and frustrates the heck out of me now is when parents (my parents) say Can you please do _blank_? when if I were to say no when I was younger I'd get a when a grown up asks you to do something you do it. And even now they don't understand when I get frustrated with them for make their requests more "polite" it's not polite it's less concrete and when dealing with the spectrum concrete is best our polite and neurotypical polite can be different in some situations. So thank you very much for addressing this! and letting me babbleChloe and Indyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00623518782758730391noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6873182308469051103.post-14759561038678771682014-02-21T15:30:10.741-05:002014-02-21T15:30:10.741-05:00hahahahaha. "Yes!. "YES!!!!" And not like Meg Ryan... more like you were sitting on my couch and not your own. These are things I honestly never really think about when I make demands of my other boys, but with AG, the approach just has to be different-- much more 'calculated' if you will. I'm lovin' the flow chart :-)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12611182094332770122noreply@blogger.com
